Artists of Erotica...

I was flipping through some of my unfinished pieces and ran across this one. It was comissioned by a local guy who was totally in love with the comic book character "Witchblade." He wanted a pen and ink illustration of the character that was erotic but also something that he could hang in his home to be seen by anyone who visited. I took the half-down deposit that I required and he was informed that the deposit was non-refundable. I got as far as you see here when he backed out of the agreement to pay the balance upon completion.

Though it's unfinished, it's one of my favorite pieces because of the precision of pen and ink. The detail that can be incorporated without worrying about sharpening pencils has always been a fascination of mine.

The first is the whole unfinished piece. The second is a bit more of a close up for the detail.

That is beautiful.

If you have no plans for it, I'd love to use the close up version for my poem. I think it could use two illustrations:) In fact, I like the idea of at least two, owing to the 'we' nature of the poem. Plus, the white on black and then black on white would make a nice contrast. What do you think?

So you'd like a second illustration of the same thing? Or something different?

I'm in the midst of a rather large illustration right now (at this moment, actually) that's a part one of two, and I have the airbrush work that I'm still trying to learn. Let me know exactly what you're after for the second one and I'll see where I can squeeze it in.

Groovis?

I was thinking of the commisioned one that didn't get picked up- from the witchblade fan. she looks like she's got her problems too:D

That'll fit the theme with the vamp nun? Or do you think the subject of the poem is diverse enough for both?

That is nice. As a matter of fact, I wrote the same story in two versions. One gay and one hetero.

Off to visit our Lit friends in the UK.

See you all in a couple of days.

Hello? Sweetnpetite? Hello? Are you there? Here? Hello?

Well, if you think your poem supports both illustrations, and visa-versa, then feel free to use them.

Yes I think they will both fit. Thanks. I think the larger theme of the poem (there is not mention of vamp nuns:)) wil support both illustrations. I'll have to play with it and see how it looks.

I had to go. :) I won't be here long today either.

As long as it's good for you it's probably good for us. Don't forget to let us know when it all gets posted.

Take care. :rose:

Best wishes to you my fellow artists....I'm off to get my groove back.

I told a friend a while back, that being an artist was the best thing in the world. We see it through special eyes. We don't just look at things, we see them. A rose is not just a flower, it's line, shape, texture, form, light and shadow, it's not just red but many shades of red, it's a symbol of love and beauty...and that we process in a matter of seconds, transpose it elsewhere, renewed and gift wrapped and present it to those who can now see it in a new light.

Thank you for sharing your gift with me and everyone else here. :rose:

Remember, it's not a block...it's an uncarved block.

All the best,
Abs.

Beautifully put, ABS. Good luck to you. I hope you'll come back and share your progress from time to time. :rose:

I was fortunate enough to hook up with someone who has a number of my pieces in her private collection. She was gracious enough to let me borrow these. The scans aren't great, but you'll get the ideas just fine. They're all pencil and range in sizes from 4"x6" to 11"x14" and were all created between 1994 and 2001.

That is a very cool piece. Got any more?
Unfortunately, no. There are tons of erotic pics to be found but I need to be inspired in some way to play with it. Something about that pic just made me think of a mermaid.

I know how you feel. I get a broad mixture of ideas floating through my head at any given time. Then I have another broad spectrum of materials that I have from the net and other sources, that sometimes intermingle with the stuff that's already in my head. Sometimes they mix, or an idea will come about that's strong enough to stand by itself, and the inspiration to do something with the idea will bloom into the effort that must be paid for the final work to be completed.

Or I'm just blowing smoke out my ass and my pencils are revealing a piece of work that was already on the paper, but obscured by the whiteness.

Philisophical, logical, emotional or a mixture of two or all three, whatever gets it done is good by me.

Yes, several times I have begun a project with a certain end in mind but when it is finished it is not what I would have done so much as what had to be done.

Oddly enough, those are the ones that I have a tendancy of not finishing. As soon as a piece starts wandering off from my original idea, or if the technique goes awry for some reason, or even if the idea itself goes stale during the process, I just won't bugger with it anymore. Not sure why. Probably just to keep some semblance of sanity.

LOL The same goes for stories.
But sometimes it pays to go with the flow, see where it will take you.
I don't know if that works with drawing or painting too, but for stories that sometimes gives you a better "product".

Sorry, it's early and I haven't even had my coffee yet, so forgive the lame language.

No apology needed. My mind is fluttering about because I wasn't in the mood to go to sleep tonight. Now I'm going to go lay down and force myself. Our son has a game tomorrow... er... today and I'm going to need at least a little sleep since I'm a base coach for his team.

I can see what you mean with the stories, though. In writing LoJ(see sig line) the story was tearing into all kinds of tangents as I was, and still am, writing it. That story, more so than any of my artworks, stands a good chance of driving me friggin' insane. To be honest, though, I'm kinda lookin' forward to the trip.

Yep, it is the same with art. It feels strange when it happens, as if some outside force is directing your hand, but it is as thrilling and furiously passionate as a lover who has been absent for months. I love it when it happens.
