What Are You Listening To Now? 6.0

Is that the one with 7 songs about the 7 deadly sins?

Notwithstanding what I said about Magenta earlier, I do like the concepts they usually apply to each album.

I'll spin several of their albums in the coming days - I hope they change my mind.

They were very good at ROSfest all those years ago.

Yes, each song is a different deadly sin. I believe this was their second album.

Panther

Pain of Salvation

definitely Pain of Salvation it with a lot more electronica

Also out today John Petrucci's new instrumental album with the rhythm section of Mike Portnoy and Dave LaRue. Also new album by Tim Bowness with Porcupine Tree's Richard Barbieri and Colin Edwin

Dianna Damrau: (Mozart; Holle Rache [just another day at the office] )

Note: Stick with it; she gets going about74 seconds after the start.

I just watched Gerry Rafferty and Peter Egan playing and singing this on a Beeb retrospective 'Top of the Pops 1964 - 1974' on the satellite TV. Huge loss when GR passed away in 2011, Will woo'd me with smooch dances to 'Baker Street' - that sax break is the most recognizable sax riff ever, only the riffs in 'Careless Whisper' and 'True' come close to being anywhere near as memorable.

On the New cov3r to cov3r album by Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy and Randy George they do a great cover of "Baker Street"

Was that Steve Morse..? Killer guitarist, I agree.

(Neal plays mostly keyboards. His brother Alan is the guitarist.)

Now Neal does quite fine for himself on guitar...no Eric Gillette but hey who is?

Sola Gratis (without Gillette I believe) comes out in a couple weeks. He released it yesterday on his music app.

I'm looking forward to the new Enslaved album. I've known them since "Frost", but seriously got into them around the time "Ruun" came around. Now, the new one plays with interesting sounds and as an aspiring musician myself, I totally dig what they're doing with Urjotun. The song starts almost like a forgotten '80s synthwave song, only to gain both a Motörhead bass line and some truly epic vocal bits.

When not scouring Youtube for new stuff to listen to, my lady love and I are working on our first EP ourselves. Four songs are in the bag, even one with vocals. Links soon.
