Woke up in the middle of the night and saw the posts on Facebook. A friend of mine died yesterday, found unresponsive in his home. We don’t know the cause yet, I don’t know if his mom does or if we will find out. I don’t think he did this to himself. It was just so sudden. Unexpected. I’ve been gutted all day.

When I was 16, I wanted to drop out of public, mainstream high school.. But I wanted to "be something" one day, so I knew I needed more education. I wasn't striving in school.

I wrote the governor of my state because no alternative schools in my area were accepting me because I was a problem kid....(I wasn't really, they assumed)

The next week, I got a call into the school counselors office. Apparently the governor's assistant or someone made a phone call to my district.

I was put in a great alternative high school shortly after!
And got my GED!!

My town was debating introducing recycling when I was in high school, so we went door to door advocating for it. I also wrote some articles for the school paper on political topics.
