OK, this must be a silly question, but how do you know which stories are contending for the top spot as because each time I refresh Contest Entries it seems to have a different order and are not (AFAICT) ever highest rated to lowest. Or is there a results page somewhere else?

It's a mystery until the announcement is made,unless you look at the outdated rating of each story individually. There's always a big sweep just before the results come out, when ratings can move quite a bit - usually upwards, then the winners will be one-bombed and go down again...
The listing page is in random order every time you load, so no story is advantaged by being on top.

I keep close eye on my scores, I down load my CSV file every night and there's been little sweeps going on for the last week

My two stories each jumped 0.01 points out of nowhere though I'm not as compulsive as Duleigh about tracking things. Still a looooong way from the winners' podium.

I submitted only a few days after opening! It's the problem with writing gay male content, rather - once it stopped being on the New GM page, it's mainly got views from the contest page, so I can predict at least 9/10 of 'readers' are seeing the content and immediately clicking Back.
Then I manage to put off most of the rest with my writing.

I agree, for my first ever story on the site I had a 1* and their comment is they didn't like the woman having multiple partners. Fair enough, but it's to be expected in a Group Sex entry. So clearly they didn't read that!

Mine has been languishing in unabomber land. The last sweep saw it claw its way to an H, but I don’t have high hopes for anything more. Unless it’s a super vigorous last sweep. It was once in 4.9x territory. Comps can really suck.

It’s funny, I can see it being 1 bombed in real time. I was never going to win, hilarious that someone thinks it’s that important
