Let's talk about silly fears.

What do you have a ridiculous fear of? Something your logical mind knows better but some little place in the back of your mind still gets chilla thinking about....

I have SCUBA dived with sharks, and I have been camping in bear country for almost fifty years. I never had a problem with either. I'd swim with black tip reef sharks again, and I sleep soundly in camp.

But,

I am petrified of snakes. I don't mean just rattlers or escaped pythons, I mean all of them from garter snakes on up.

Years ago my buddy and I were hunting on Lake Erie near a park on the water's edge. (Recognize that this means we both had 12 ga shotguns and lots of ammo and a large yellow bringer-backer dog to defend ourselves). We just unloaded and gotten in his truck and were trying to decide where to head next. Lake Erie is known for large, slightly aggressive water snakes. One flopped out of a low hanging tree branch onto the hood of his truck. I can attest that a 1983 Dodge Ram with a 318 can do 40 kilometers per hour (about 25 mph) in reverse. Neither of us got out of the truck until we hit the highway.

My favourite nearby National park is one of the only places in Ontario that has bears and Massasauga Rattlers. The Massasauga is the second smallest rattlesnake, non aggressive and reclusive. Guess which one scares the bejeebers out of me...

Roaches. Those fuckers... why are they all nasty? Why do they need to fly? What are those antennas doing?

I am less scared of venomous snakes than roaches.

Needles. Injections, tattoos, whatever. Rationally I know they aren't a big deal. Just the literal pinprick and it's over.

But it's a motherfucking panic attack. Every. Time.

Crazy women with knives... and while it sounds silly I'm not being the least bit funny in saying it.

Bridges. Some are beautiful and majestic, but I break out a cold sweat when I have to cross one.

There are some bridges I know of or have to occasionally cross that will make me break out in a cold sweat if the traffic backs up on them and comes to a stand still.

Clowns. Dolls. Doll eyes. Marionettes. Ventriloquist dummies.

I know, I know.
I just do.
Clowns.... real life clowns give me a straight up panic attack. Every. Time.

Fucking zombies, man. Fuck those things. Especially the slow, inexorable stalky ones.
Lol zombies and sharks ate my SOs biggest fears. I say both are pretty easy to avoid if necessary. :D

I freak out walking through a dark hallway or room, whether it’s at home or the office. I have to have some light on somewhere or I do that crazy mad dash to flip the switch and bolt into the next lighted room. Never know what’s lurking in the dark ...
Yes. Everything is in the dark until you know there's nothing in the dark

Mother. Fucking. Flying. Roaches. <shivers>

So... not a massochist??? :D

I'd say this is a pretty logical fear. ;)

Bridges. Some are beautiful and majestic, but I break out a cold sweat when I have to cross one.
Totally! I'm good until i start wondering how on earth they can hold all these cars.

I am mega scared of fire.... in all forms.

Fireworks.... yeah.... I sit in the car and watch other people shoot them off.

I also have a weird fear my teeth or eyes will just fall out one day. So anything like that... ugh...

Roaches and crickets. Agro motherfuckers.

Also, I hate showering when home alone. I'm positive this is how I'll be murdered one day.

Wow.

Wowww...

I’ll remember that.

I really don't see you afraid of anything Fara, I know that's an unrealistic belief as its a human thing to fear. But if there were a zombie apocalypses I'd expect to see you still there afterwards welding a big ass Lucille and a grin on your face.

I didn’t say I was afraid of zombies...

I have the normal fears. About kids and family being hurt. Losing people I love. Not being loved.
I’m also a bit claustrophobic.

I'm scared of my 12 year old. That dude is brutal. He'll hug me like the sweetest angel to make drop my guard and then bruise my soul with some offhand rejection of some deep wisdom I'm trying to impart on him. I swear he's an evil genius. Terrifying...

Thunderstorms and lightning freak me out. I want to go hide under a blanket when that happens.

I don’t think I have irrational fears. My fears are rooted in possibility which is why they’re fucking terrifying. My spouse getting dementia. My kid getting cancer. Car accidents. A fire at home. My dog being in pain towards the end of her life. Donald Trump being re-elected.

I’d take a fear of clowns over that stuff any day!

I got caught in a really bad thunderstorm on the side of a mountain while hiking in the woods as a kid. Lighting was hitting around us with the wind and rain being horrible. I was terrified, but since then haven't been afraid of thunderstorms or lightning. :)

However the ass whipping I got afterwards for being out in it made me so mad that its probably what had more to me not being afraid of storms or a beating afterwards. :(

That's horrible, tnman. I'm sorry that happened to you. :(

I am afraid of snakes. Like turn the other way and get out of Dodge afraid. It might be biblical but something about how they move....ugh, but about does me in.

I still consider it one of the great accomplishments of my life when I told my grandpa to just throw the garden snake in the bushes instead of killing it.

I don't know... like Avery, I feel my fears are rooted in the possible. Water damage to the house. Tech failure. Family illness. Losing the people I care most about.
