What’s your most controversial opinion?

Absolutely, things like that are abhorrent and should be called out. But when you censor one half and remove whatever vileness was said it just becomes the voices of many attacking the few.
This is such a statement of privilege. Only someone who has never been part of a minority group regularly attacked by bigots could take this stance.

Why should LGBT+ members of this forum have to put up with being attacked here? Why should members who are people of colour have to put up with being attacked here? Why should they have to see the bigotry and prejudice directed at them just to preserve your idea of free speech? Removing hateful comments isn't censorship, it's protecting the members of this community from being attacked for no other reason than who they are and the so called 'dogpiling' are those members who are standing in solidarity with those people and saying that bigotry isn't welcome here. You essentially saying that people should have to put up with being on the receiving end of abuse so that you can feel like there's a dialogue and fuck that noise.

So you don’t know what “hate speech” actually is, do you. Also, you don’t believe organizations should have a terms of service for their user base?
As I said in another post, there’s no such thing as hate speech. There is only speech/language and feelings. Obviously feelings do and should matter when interacting with people but feelings are subjective and shouldn’t be used to regulate speech.

As for terms of service, I have no problem with them. I don’t have to agree with all of them, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think some are valid and that a business has a right to do what they want.

Tell the black person having racial slurs shouted at them that there's no such thing as hate speech.

Tell the gay couple unable to hold hands in public without hearing homophobic slurs there's no such thing as hate speech.

Tell the Jewish person hearing Holocaust denial and antisemitic abuse there's no such thing as hate speech.

Tell the trans person being deliberately misgendered or dead named there's no such thing as hate speech.

Go on, look them in the eyes, tell them that it's just their feelings and there's no such thing as hate speech. That their lived experience is nothing compared to your pseudo intellectual, first year debate club, view of the world having never once had to worry that the stranger walking towards you down the street might want you dead because you're different. This isn't some thought experiment to them, it's their daily lives and how dare you try to tell them there's no such thing as hate speech.

Perfectly said from beginning to end. Thank you, sir. ❤️

"There's no such thing as hate speech."

To be blunt, what the fuck is wrong with you? This is such a massively, massively naive and untrue comment. You're doing intellectual gymnastics I can't even comprehend. You 'free speech" at all cost people I honestly think are dangerous.

This by your definition is hate speech directed at me because of the social identity you are assuming i belong to. By using “privilege” you’re dismissing my opinion based on your preconceived notion of me being a straight white male and all the horrors that come along with that. It would be the same as me saying “of course a gay person would feel that way about…”

Straight to DARVO, that didn't take long

Just because I believe people have the right to say what they want doesn’t mean that I agree or condone that type of speech. But I would rather it was out in the open so you know what someone thinks rather than it being hidden and allowed to fester. When it’s open for people to see it allows you to condemn and confront it.

Which is what happened. But then people started scream crying about free speech and how name-calling is wrong and other deflective bullshit.

Saying hate speech doesn’t exist is like saying blue doesn’t exist. It’s something that is well defined and understood. You being willfully ignorant about it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

I’m agree with calling him out. I don’t agree with the post removal. But absolutely call that garbage out.
Just because I believe that you can say what you like, doesn’t mean that I don’t think there are consequences when you say something horrible or you attack someone or a group of someone’s.

Where is it well defined? I can’t call someone a “n word” but my buddy with a significantly higher melanin count can. I didn’t say there’s not hateful speech. But it’s not universal it’s based on subjective feelings and what is currently socially acceptable.

Do you want to say that word for some reason?
