Plagiarism on Storiesonline

Well if he's also running ZBookStore, which is a pay-to-read site, then it's against his best interest to delete stories in the most popular genre.
But if they're stolen, it's more in his interest to delete them because if a site gets a reputation in the selling market as abiding theft it will spread quickly.

Laz has always treated me right. I've never had a run-in with him. I'm not very happy about the voting system, he knows that. I'm also pissed at him that the writer can't see their score until 20 votes are cast. All because some people complained about the low scores from the get-go. My comment to them was, shit happens.

And if the good writers who sell leave him, he'll be left with bad writers and ones who get books from the Gutenberg Project, cut out the project's end license, and publish those stories. (Which should've been free, but they charge for them.)

I supported your post there. Let's see what happens. I can't believe we even have to go these lengths for such an obvious theft. This is clearly only about losing money and integrity be damned. I hope he's just being cautious and that he'll do the right thing in the end.

One should have been enough, and that happened at the very beginning of this thread. The rest just takes it deeper and deeper into WTF? territory.

*sigh* Tried Bing and DuckDuckGo. I didn't expect anything from Bing, but I had at least some slight hope for DaDuck. No dice. No search engine is worth a shit for exact text searches now. None of them will even find the place you copied the text from — nevermind anywhere it's been horked and posted to.

I thought about plagiarism search sites, but I doubt they're indexing pr0n, as they're geared toward catching stuff in college papers.

Somebody really needs to startup a search engine that does what Google used to do and hurl those evil bastards and their AI shitstorm into the Yahoo! abyss where they belong.
That's why I've all but stopped. Search engines are fucking bullshit these days, with google leading the charge.

These assholes do these things because they can get away with it. You can't set an example by just privately warning people. Banning, naming and shaming, and even withdrawing funds if possible, is what any website that sells stories should do. Of course, those websites are almost always about the money, not about integrity.
The only site I've seen publically shame for it, is AdultFan-Fiction.

https://www.literotica.com/s/a-day-at-my-aunts by matusik as Aunt Suzy.

The only ones I haven't been able to find ended up having underage elements, so he must be stealing them from somewhere else. I'm using the site:literotica.com limiter for my searches. At least the fuckwits at Google haven't broken that yet.

And the last one is underage. That's only 3 I couldn't find on Lit because they can't be published here, and only one duplicate pen name out of ten frikkin' stories.
How low? Could be from Lush. If old enough, could be from asstr or some other site.

Two of them are in the 16-17 range I believe. I honestly didn't read that closely. I was looking for phrases I thought would generate hits. The last one... ( which was so poorly written it was barely coherent ) I'm not even going to say on that one. It shouldn't even be on SOL under their current age rules.

16 or 17 could be Lush. That's as low as they go. I have found sites that go lower, that only let you submit stories, without sign up.

Like I said, I didn't read that closely, but even hunting for phrases, all those underage ones were clunky at best. I doubt they'd have survived vetting at Lush. The last one shouldn't have survived as bathroom stall graffiti.

I suspect they were dredged up from the bowels of ASSTR years ago and have resided on the thief's hard drive ever since.

Well, it looks like maybe the thread had some impact, because everything I managed to find was stolen from Lit has been removed from the account. The free side, anyway. The ebooks are still live, but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that there's some sort of lag for those getting removed.

I probably shouldn't, given the fight this has been.

The question is, how many bloody plagiarized stories does it take to wipe out the whole bloody account as an obvious thief who is a detriment to the site? If 10 of the 14 are stolen, why in the hell would you think the remaining 4 aren't? Why would you care if they weren't?

It's ridiculous.

Ebooks are still up 7 hours later. Dropped a gentle reminder in the thread over there.

Finally.

Mission accomplished, I guess.

I'll probably get 1-bombed to oblivion now, but I don't know how long any of my stuff is going to stay there anyway.
It was a very commendable effort from you, one that wasn't done for any personal gain but out of principle and solidarity. You've my thanks, and I hope the AH appreciates these things properly. Such theft could happen to any of us.

At least I figured out a way to find stuff like this on broken-ass, AI-infested Google again. It's way less precise and far more time-consuming, but it works.

And at least this happened on a week I was on vacation. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have had so much time to obsess over it. LMAO

Do you remember the amazon debacle years ago where that long time editor had taken stories sent to them and published them on amazon? She had over 300 books and it was at the point where once some of us did the work to connect their books to lit stories Laurel herself contacted amazon. They removed a ton of them to where they only had a few books left but the account stayed active for some time after that which was ridiculous.

I got lucky finding it because they had begun to do it on Smashwords who's really tight on these things and they e-mailed me because mine had been up far longer and asked what was up. They deleted that account right away but I searched it on amazon and found the mother load of stolen work.

Now of course I can't think of the person's lit name who did it grrrrrr

Only dimly. I can't remember the name either. I think I looked at a few of them, but other people were knocking them out way faster, and always seemed to be one step ahead of whatever one I'd downloaded the preview for, no matter where I started in the list on Amazon.

I want to say it was something Turner, maybe Evelyn?

It was a bizarre story. She edited a couple things for me, then was going to take on a novel for me and asked if I wanted to call her to discuss it. I did and we spoke for a little while about the story, what she'd charge and a time line. She then brought up the BDSM aspects of the story saying she was in the lifestyle then her husband grabs the phone from her and threatens to find me and beat my ass for dogging on his wife and to never call again.

Down the line she had a blog where she said she left her husband because he abused her and was lamenting being 'falsely accused' of stealing people's work because she needed the money to get by.

Sad if that's true and I can say firsthand he was flat out unhinged on the phone and I had no problem believing her but no excuse to steal.

That has all the makings of a LW story. :p

It seems that the old times in the AH were quite fun as well.
